The price starts from the market, not from what you paid
The value of a used motorcycle has nothing to do with its list price or with what you have spent on it. It depends on one thing only: the price the same model, in the same condition, actually sells for in Belgium today. That is where any serious valuation starts.
Two bikes of the same model and year can easily be โฌ1,500 apart. The difference comes from the criteria below, in this order of importance.
1. The model and demand for it
Some models sell within days, others sit in the listings for months. A mid-size adventure bike, a recent naked or a sought-after 600 supersport holds its value. A rare, exotic or out-of-fashion model trades lower, even in perfect condition, because the end buyer is harder to find.
2. Year and mileage
In Belgium a motorcycle covers 4,000 to 6,000 km a year on average. Below that, mileage supports the price; above it, it pulls the price down. Past 40,000 km buyers start pricing in major services, and past 60,000 km the price drops sharply, except for big adventure and touring bikes, which are built to last.
The year matters less than the mileage, but it sets the generation of the model: a new version with ABS, a revised engine or a new dash knocks down the value of the previous generation.
3. Condition, service history and tyres
A complete service book, invoices and recent tyres reassure buyers: that is what separates a bike that sells fast from a bike that waits. A drop, even without mechanical consequences, costs the price of the scuffed parts, and a declared accident costs even more.
Approved accessories (exhaust, panniers, heated grips, screen, crash protection) add something, but rarely their purchase price: count on a third, at best.
4. Season and location
The Belgian motorcycle market follows the seasons. From March to June demand is strong and so are prices. From October to February buyers are scarce and prices drop by 5 to 10%. If you are not in a hurry, selling in spring pays more. If you sell in winter, a professional buyer who buys all year round will often beat a private buyer.
How to get a reliable valuation
